Trade INR Forex Pairs With Nirmal Bang - Review

Д: Nirmal Bang forex pairs available for Indian traders: USD/INR, EUR/INR, GBP/INR, JPY/INR on NSE, BSE and MSE. Learn what the specs mean in practice. H1: Forex Pairs Available at Nirmal Bang

Nirmal Bang gives Indian residents access to exchange-traded INR currency pairs only: USD/INR, EUR/INR, GBP/INR and JPY/INR, offered as futures and options on SEBI-recognised exchanges. No spot forex, no major or minor pairs, no offshore CFDs. The pair menu is set by the regulator, not by the broker's marketing department, and that distinction matters more than any contract specification below. This page breaks down what is tradeable, how the mechanics work behind the order ticket, and where the line sits between what a domestic broker can offer and what it cannot.

What Is Actually Tradeable

The instruments are currency derivatives on the National Stock Exchange, the Bombay Stock Exchange and the Metropolitan Stock Exchange. Each contract is a standardised futures or options agreement referenced to an INR exchange rate, with contract size, tick value and expiry date fixed by the exchange rather than negotiated with the broker.

Currency optionsSame four pairsNSE, BSE
Cross-currency futuresXAG/USD, XAG/USD, XAG/USDNSE

Nirmal Bang lists currency inside a broader instrument set that also covers equity, futures and options, commodities, mutual funds, IPOs and insurance, per nirmalbang.com. Currency is a segment of a full-service broking account, not a standalone forex product. That has a practical consequence: the same KYC, the same ledger and the same back office handle a USD/INR futures trade and a delivery equity purchase.

The sessions differ by product. INR currency derivatives run 09:00 to 17:00 IST, Monday to Friday. Cross-currency derivatives extend to 19:30 IST, per SEBI-recognised exchange schedules. If you are watching the London open or the US session, you are watching hours in which this venue is closed.

NOTE
The exchange fixes contract size, expiry and margin. The broker routes your order. Two brokers quoting the same pair will show the same underlying contract, so the differences you actually feel come from fees, platform speed and support, not from the contract itself.

Why Major Pairs Are Missing

Where is XAG/USD on its own, and where is XAG/USD? They are not on the menu for a resident Indian account, and this is a rulebook outcome rather than a product gap.

The Reserve Bank of India governs foreign exchange under FEMA 1999 and authorises Electronic Trading Platforms. Under this framework, residents may trade only INR-based currency pairs on recognised exchanges. Trading spot forex or CFDs with offshore brokers is not permitted for residents, and remitting money abroad for margin forex trading is not a permitted purpose under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme. The RBI Master Direction on Electronic Trading Platforms bars operating a forex ETP in India without authorisation.

So the four pairs you can trade are not a stripped-down version of a bigger catalogue. They are the catalogue. Cross-currency contracts add XAG/USD, XAG/USD and XAG/USD exposure, but they settle differently and trade in the extended session, which changes how you size and exit a position.

The Specs Behind an Order

Behind the ticket, a USD/INR futures contract has a defined lot size, a minimum price movement and a daily settlement price. You post margin rather than the full notional, and the exchange recalculates that margin through SPAN plus an exposure component. Roughly 3 to 5 percent of notional translates to something in the range of 20x to 30x effective exposure, and that figure moves with volatility, per SEBI and exchange margin circulars.

Two mechanics catch people out.

The first is the mark-to-market cycle. Futures settle to the exchange's daily settlement price, and gains or losses are credited or debited to your ledger each evening. Options behave differently: the premium is paid upfront, and the writer posts margin. Mixing the two in one strategy without accounting for the daily cash swing is a common source of avoidable margin calls.

The second is expiry. These are dated contracts, not perpetual positions. If you are used to holding a spot position indefinitely, the roll becomes a recurring decision with a cost attached. A trader running a view for six months on USD/INR will roll three or four times through the two nearest serial contracts.

Costs and the Margin Reality

Nirmal Bang publishes a percentage-based plan with a flat option, per nirmalbang.com. Relevant line items for a currency trader sit inside that structure.

ChargeAmount
Delivery brokerage~0.20%
Intraday / futures brokerage~0.02%
Equity options~Rs.25 per lot
AMC~Rs.200
Account openingRs.0

Funding runs through UPI and net-banking. Base and settlement currency is INR, so there is no domestic FX conversion step and no currency risk layered on top of your trade. UPI transfers are near-instant and available around the clock within the NPCI per-transaction limit, while IMPS, NEFT, RTGS and net-banking cover larger or non-UPI cases, per RBI and NPCI rails. No verified minimum deposit surfaced during our review.

Intraday margin and MTF operate under SEBI peak-margin norms. That is the framework that determines how much of your position you fund upfront versus how much the broker temporarily covers, and it is the number that changes when volatility spikes.

PRO TIP
If you compare brokers on currency costs, compare the all-in number: brokerage plus exchange transaction charges plus GST plus stamp duty. A headline rate tells you one slice of a layered bill.

Reading the Choice Narrowly

A domestic broker is the correct instrument for exchange-traded INR derivatives, and it is not the right instrument for everything a currency trader might want to do. If your strategy depends on 24-hour access, tight institutional spreads on majors, or position sizes far above what Indian margin norms allow, then the honest path is to evaluate a properly regulated international broker and to understand the legal perimeter you are stepping across.

That evaluation has criteria. Look for supervision by a top-tier authority such as the FCA, CySEC or ASIC rather than a thinly staffed offshore register. Check that client money is held in segregated accounts at a named bank. Read the fee schedule for the items that quietly compound: overnight swap, inactivity charges, conversion markup on deposits and withdrawals. Ask how long the firm has operated and whether the legal entity named on your statement is the same entity that holds the licence. A broker that answers all four questions plainly, in writing, is worth more of your attention than one offering the sharpest headline spread.

What Blocks the Withdrawal

Withdrawals through Nirmal Bang flow back through the same INR rails: UPI or bank transfer into your registered account. The review surfaced customer-service and fund-transfer complaints alongside a dated web platform, per nirmalbang.com.

The practical read is that friction in a domestic account usually shows up as processing time and query resolution, not as a refusal to pay. In an offshore account the failure mode is worse: deposits accepted, then withdrawal requests stalled, accounts frozen or support gone dark. The RBI Alert List of unauthorised forex trading platforms exists precisely because that pattern is common. As of the 19 November 2025 update the list totalled 95 entities, with Starnet FX, CapPlace, Mirrox, Fusion Markets, Trive, NXG Markets and Nord FX added in that round, and the RBI states the list is not exhaustive. Verify any platform against the current list before sending money, and confirm entities through SEBI and RBI registers directly.

The recurring scam pattern in India combines a Telegram or WhatsApp signal group promising fixed monthly returns, a cloned broker app, and a platform that accepts deposits then blocks withdrawals. A recovery-agent offer often follows the first loss.

Where the Tax Line Falls

Currency futures and options profits on a recognised exchange are generally treated as non-speculative business income and taxed at your slab rate, per the Income Tax Department and CBDT. If you hold intraday speculative positions, those are treated separately: speculative losses can only be set off against speculative income and carry forward four years, while non-speculative losses carry forward eight.

Two items trip people up. Foreign remittances above Rs 10 lakh per financial year attract 20 percent TCS under the LRS, with the threshold raised from Rs 7 lakh effective 1 April 2025; that TCS is an advance-tax credit, not a final tax. And residents must declare worldwide income and foreign assets under Schedule FA. If you hold an account abroad for any reason, that disclosure obligation exists independently of how the trading performed.

WARNING
Trading spot forex or CFDs with offshore brokers is not permitted for Indian residents, and margin forex trading is not a valid LRS end-use. A platform that accepts UPI deposits for spot forex is operating outside the legal framework, whatever its marketing says.

Beyond the Marketing Numbers

Strip back the claim of broad market access and Nirmal Bang gives you four INR pairs and three cross-currency pairs on regulated exchanges, plus a full domestic instrument shelf around them. That is a complete toolkit for an Indian resident trading currency derivatives. It is not a global forex offering, and no domestic broker can make it one.

What sits outside the pitch is the part that decides outcomes. Leverage here is margin-based and moves with volatility, so a position that carried comfortably last month may demand more cash this month. Expiries force roll decisions. Session hours leave the overnight move untradeable. Fees layer brokerage, exchange charges, GST and stamp duty into one bill. And the broker's own operational record, including the transfer and service complaints logged in our review, is a variable you cannot backtest.

None of that argues against using this platform for what it is built to do. It argues for matching the tool to the job. Exchange-traded INR derivatives belong in a domestic account with SEBI oversight, clear INR settlement and a disclosed fee card. Strategies that genuinely need offshore venues belong with a broker supervised by a first-tier regulator, with segregated client funds and a fee structure you have read in full. Choose on those criteria, not on the largest leverage number on the landing page.

Reader questions

Can I trade XAG/USD or XAG/USD as a resident Indian?

Not as standalone offshore-style spot pairs. XAG/USD and XAG/USD exposure is available through cross-currency derivatives on a recognised exchange, running 09:00 to 19:30 IST. Offshore spot forex and CFDs are not permitted for residents.

What margin applies to USD/INR futures?

There is no fixed retail leverage cap of the ESMA kind. Margin is set by SEBI and exchange SPAN plus exposure rules, roughly 3 to 5 percent of notional, which works out to about 20x to 30x exposure. The exact figure moves with volatility.

What hours do these pairs trade?

INR currency derivatives trade 09:00 to 17:00 IST, Monday to Friday. Cross-currency derivatives extend to 19:30 IST. The venue is closed during the London and New York sessions, so overnight moves cannot be traded in real time.
